By pouring color epoxy on the top board of school desks which were used in elementary schools, the flat school desks were regenerated, having each one its peculiar character.

Usually, although school desks all have the same shape, they gradually gain individual character through the personal items of the pupil, like a school bag or a hat(bosaizukin)…

However, in this project, the individuality of the desks is regenerated through colors. By pouring epoxy on the top boards of the desks, the faint memory of this epoch is revived.

This project is part of the “FlatProject” series.

Originally flat desks become uneven due to time deterioration or scribbling.

The unevenness is reset to flat with translucent color epoxy. With this process, the unevenness is reflected on the epoxy’s light and shade of color, where deep points are mirrored by dense colors and shallow points by more transparent shades. Ultimately, it can be assimilated to the expressions created by the various light and shades of the sea color.

The unevenness of the top board of the school desk will create color contrast. Originally, the desk has rounded edges, but the epoxy was poured in a square shape, thus lumping at the corners and borders, creating a stronger contrast at the contours of the desk, confining in it all the memories of that era.

Thanks to the craftsmanship and expertise of Nakamura Shuhei in epoxy wouldn’t have been completed.

Each product is unique, there are no two same products.
